Design and Specifications of the 1950 Half Dollar
The 1950 Franklin Half Dollar was part of the series that began in 1948, replacing the Walking Liberty design. It marked the second year of full production for all three mints after the San Francisco Mint resumed striking half dollars in 1949. The Franklin Half Dollar series continued until 1963, when it was replaced by the Kennedy Half Dollar in 1964.

Rarity Factors and Value Drivers
The condition of 1950 Franklin Half Dollars significantly impacts their value. Uncirculated examples in grades MS63 and above command substantial premiums. Full Bell Lines (FBL) on the reverse are highly sought after and can greatly increase value.
For proof coins, cameo and deep cameo contrast between the fields and devices is highly desirable and can significantly boost value. The presence of original toning can also enhance appeal and value for both circulation strikes and proofs.

Strike quality is particularly important for Franklin Half Dollars, as many were weakly struck. Coins with sharp details, especially on Franklin’s hair and the Liberty Bell, are more valuable.
Luster plays a crucial role in determining value for uncirculated coins. Specimens with strong, original mint luster are highly prized.
While not particularly rare, 1950 proof coins are in high demand due to their low mintage compared to later years in the series. Well-preserved examples with deep mirrors and strong cameo contrast can command significant premiums.
