The honors in 2022 are reserved for Maya Angelou the celebrated writer, performer, and social activist. She was the first black woman to be featured on a United States quarter coin.
Second honors go to physicist and first woman astronaut Dr. Sally Ride. Following is the first female principal chief of the Cherokee Nation and activist for Native American and women’s rights Wilma Mankiller. A leader in New Mexico’s suffrage movement and the first female superintendent of Santa Fe public schools Nina Otero-Warren.
Lastly, Anna May Wong was the first Chinese American film star in Hollywood. She is best known as an actress who achieved international success despite racism and discrimination.
Price Guide For Common 2022 Dr. Sally Ride Quarter Coins Worth Investing
The Dr. Sally Ride quarter coin is the second of the five quarter designs that are included in the 2022 American Women Quarters Program. It was released into general circulation in March 2022. Relatively young, this coin did not achieve some higher value on the coin market, mainly due to the fact that it is too early.
Coins gain value if they feature a unique error, low mintage, or with time. Considering, these coins are minted in limited volume and only for a single year, they will drastically increase in price in the following years. But now, lets’s explore the current prices.
2022-P mint mark Quarter value
In 2022 the Philadelphia Mint produced the second-largest minting volume of 275,200,000 Dr. Sally Ride quarter coins. All coins minted in this facility are produced for circulation and you can recognize them by the “P” mint mark on the obverse side of the coin.
Due to the high mintage volume and abundance of coins in general circulation, their value is pretty low. Circulated coins are in the price range of $0.25 up to $5.40 depending on condition and grade. Specimens that are in the mint state on average are estimated to be worth around a few tens of dollars.

Like with Maya Angelou coins, in 2022 Denver Mint once again produced the largest minting volume of quarter coins. Approximately 278,000,000 Dr. Sally Ride quarter coins were produced for general circulation. As usual, coins that originate from this facility carry a “D” mint mark on the obverse side of the coin.
2022-D Dr. Sally Ride quarter coins are estimated to be worth pretty low considering the mintage volume. An average selling price goes from $0.25 to $5 if they are in good condition. Coins that are circulated yet still in almost mint state will be worth a bit more, from $10 and up. Uncirculated coins will sell for at least $50.
For instance, the 2022-D Dr. Sally Ride quarter with grade MS68 was sold for $669 on auction.
2022-S mint mark Quarter value
The same story goes for the 2022 Dr. Sally Ride quarter. In 2022 in San Francisco Mint two different quarters were minted – proof and business strike coins. Like with Maya Angelou coins, proof varieties were minted on both clad and 99.9% silver planchets.
As you all know proof coins were struck for collectors only. However, in this minting year, business strike coins as well weren’t released into general circulation. There are around 304,120 business strike quarter coins. While proof coins were minted in a bit higher mintage volume. The proof-clad quarters are minted in volume around 441,599.
All silver-proof 2022 American Woman Quarters had a volume of 338,270. The highest price tag for a business strike 2022-S Dr. Sally Ride Quarter coin with grade MS68 was $599. Surprisingly, a silver-proof ultra cameo quarter with grade PF 70 was sold for only $39!

The Main Features Of The 2022 Dr. Sally Ride Quarter Coins
This coins features similar design to Maya Angelou coin, the only difference is the image on the reverse side.
On the obverse side of the coin, you’ll notice a portrait of President George Washington. Just above his head, the word “LIBERTY” is engraved. An inscription “IN GOD WE TRUST” is engraved behind his neck, while below his chin you can find the mint mark and minting year.
When you flip the coin you’ll notice an image of Dr. Sally Ride standing next to a window on the space shuttle. This image was inspired by her quote “But when I wasn’t working, I was usually at a window looking down at Earth”.
The inscription “E PLURIBUS UNUM” is purposely placed over the Earth just next to the word America, to indicate that out of all women, Dr. Ride was the first into space. The inscription “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” is following the upper rim. A denomination “QUARTER DOLLAR” is placed following the lower rim of the coin, and just next to it you’ll notice her name “DR. SALLY RIDE”.
These quarter coins were minted in Philadelphia (P), San Francisco (S), and Denver (D) Mint facilities. Most quarter coins were minted on planchets made of copper-nickel clad composition, except the silver-proof coin variety which was minted on 99.9% silver planchet.
What Errors Can Be Found On 2022 Dr. Sally Ride Quarters?
Even though these coins are shortly in circulation, collectors already found some error varieties that could make you rich. One of the most popular errors is found on the reverse side, just behind Dr. Sally’s neck and next to the Earth. It is called “Ghost Comet Tail” and you’ll recognize it as an extra line. The estimated value is $1,250.
Also, a unique minting error was displayed on the outline of George Washington’s face on the obverse side. In almost all 2022 quarter series you can find “Drooling George” errors with multiple flaws on the face and neck. An estimated value for this error is around $1,500.
Finally, there are two different varieties of die clash errors. One is noticeable on Sally Ride’s face and originates from Philadelphia Mint. While the other can be found on George Washington’s face as deformed lips and originated from Denver Mint. Both errors were worth around $1,000.

Dr. Sally Ride was the first American woman and at the same time the youngest American woman (32) in space. She aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger on June 18th, 1983, and during the six days of a mission she deployed and retrieved a satellite with the shuttle’s robotic arm.
